The Grundy Police Department is located on Rout 460 West end of Town. The Police Department is the lead law enforcement agency serving the Town of Grundy. The Buchanan County Sheriff's Department and the Virginia State Police provide additional support as needed. The Police Department is a participant with the Regional Drug Task Force. The dispatcher for the Buchanan County Sheriff's Department serves as the 911 dispatcher for the Grundy Police Department. Most calls are handled by the Town without the need for assistance, however all departments of law enforcement work together in the region. The Grundy Police Department earned full accreditation with the Virginia Law Enforcement Standards Commission in 2017. This program serves as a platform for improvements throughout the Department. Obtaining our first accreditation allows us the opportunity to show our commitment to providing professional and ethical services to our community.
In 2014, the Police Department upgraded its communication system. This upgrade included joining the Stars System operated by the Virginia State Police providing new equipment and additional communication capabilities across different agencies.
At present the Department is comprised of six full-time sworn officers, four part-time sworn officers, and one part-time civilian assistant.
